THE PIANO LESSON
At Melody Sons Music Room, your child will receive a warm and fun environment to learn music.
Piano lessons are conducted on an individual basis. Each lesson consists of both practical piano and theory elements. The theory contains the three rudiments in music - Note Reading, Written Work, and Ear Training. These main elements are integrated to ensure that the lesson time is always fun and engaging.
Melody is delighted to help children embark on their musical adventure, with a teaching method that caters to their individual needs.

AGE REQUIREMENT
Minimum of 5 years old with basic reading skills.
LESSON DURATION
SCHEDULE & ATTENDANCE
Lessons are divided into sessions as follows:
* FALL SESSION 2026:
August 3 – December 19
* WINTER/SPRING SESSION 2026:
January 4 – May 31
* SUMMER SESSION:
Music Camp
June 2026
Summer lessons may be arranged by request on a fee-per lesson basis. While tuition for lessons in the Fall and Winter/Spring Lessons are paid for on a monthly basis of four-30 minute or four-45 minute lessons, in the Summer, lessons are flexible with a minimum of four lessons.
THE LESSON
Parents are welcome to sit-in with their child for a 30-minute trial lesson at no cost. This is a great opportunity to meet the teacher and determine if her teaching style and personality make a good match for the student.
After the initial lesson, parents may sit-in with their child during every 4th lesson of the month with advance notice.
In order for the teacher to provide her full, undivided attention, and for the student to have a learning environment free of distractions, siblings are asked to attend their lessons one at a time.
Due to the back-to-back lesson schedule, parents are advised to arrive and return at the scheduled time. As such, students are expected to arrive on time with all materials and their assignment notebook neatly placed in a tote bag.
The teacher is happy to update and communicate with parents regarding student progress. It is requested that parents take the opportunity to touch base with the teacher during the last 5 minutes of the scheduled lesson time.
LESSON FEES
Billing and Financial Procedures
Payments are to be made every first week of the month unless other arrangements are made with the teacher. A $25 late fee will apply if payment is not received by the first week.
Please note that additional charges apply for longer months where five lessons can be scheduled.
There are several options to pay the lesson: by personal check, cash, and PayPal. Any credit card payments will have a 5% fee added.
PRACTICE
As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” For fast progress, students are encouraged to practice daily for a minimum of 15-30 minutes. For this purpose, a timer is an excellent device to keep placed on your piano. Most students find it helpful to practice at the same time every day. The best time of the day students practice is in the morning.
Young beginners often do well with 5-10 minutes of practice broken up into 1-2 times a day. It is recommended that parents sit to guide them through practice at home.
Students will be given a practice journal for recording practice times and assignments. This provides a system of accountability to help the student stay committed to making progress. While the teacher desires to help the student develop and maintain progress, the parent can also help enormously by taking a participative role.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Federal holidays, OPEN for a regular lesson.
There are NO lessons on:
Thanksgiving Day,
the 3rd and 4th week of December, and
Independence Day (July 4th).
CANCELATION
Unexpected circumstances or schedule conflicts such as illness, a school trip, or death in the family, may result in the need to cancel a lesson. Whenever there is a genuine reason for a lesson cancelation, it is requested that the teacher be given 12-hour notice.
REPLACEMENT POLICY
A lesson canceled by the teacher will always be replaced. A lesson canceled due to the inclement weather will be replaced. A replacement is not guaranteed for missed lessons due to family trips and last-minute cancellations. The teacher will try to be accommodative but cannot guarantee a replacement lesson. Parents understand that the teacher's first obligation is to regularly scheduled lessons. Please be aware that the teacher reserves her time for a scheduled lesson regardless of whether the student comes or not.
Refunds or replacement lessons are not available for missed lessons or last-minute cancelations.
TERMINATION
Monthly package lessons can only be terminated at the end of the month. Please provide a month written notice for termination of lessons.
The teacher reserves the right to discontinue lessons for the following reasons:
Persistent absences/tardiness.
Excessive requests for schedule changes.
Lack of progress due to insufficient practice.
Uncooperative attitude or general dislike of lessons.
RECITALS
Recitals are held twice a year and are a great opportunity for students to showcase the musical skills they have developed. The student's participation is not required but very much encouraged.
A recital fee is collected to cover expenses for printed programs, certificates, and other venue expenses.
WEBSITE
Photos and videos taken during lessons and recitals may be used on the studio website and social media accounts. For privacy purposes, the name of the students will not be shown unless otherwise permitted by the guardian.
